Electrical fault causes water shortages in parts of Potchefstroom

An electrical fault at a pump station has left parts of the city facing water shortages. Two reservoirs have been affected.

An electrical fault, at a pump station on the Ventersdorp road, has caused a water shortage on June 11 in parts of Potchefstroom.

According to Jeanette Tshite, municipal spokesperson, the station is operating with only two
pumps, which are insufficient to supply water to the Eesterandjies Reservoirs and Extension Areas of Ikageng. The Vyfhoek reservoir has also been affected by technical issues.

“This follows a similar incident that occurred in the evening of  June 9, when an electrical fault disrupted pumping operations at the same station. The issue was promptly reported to the Municipality’s Electricity Section for urgent repairs, and Pump 3 was temporarily restored to service on, June 10. Unfortunately, the fault reoccurred in the early hours of
June 11. The JB Marks Local Municipality is working diligently to implement a permanent solution and prevent
further disruptions. We apologize for the inconvenience caused and appreciate residents’ patience and understanding,” said Tshite in a statement.
