Pothole woes worsen in rainy weather

Potholes are a major concern for motorists in Potchefstroom, especially on the busy intersections and main roads in various areas.

One of the biggest sections of road in the city that needs urgent attention is the corner of Retief and Luke Streets. A big pothole and numerous smaller potholes have surfaced in this area, making it difficult for motorists to stay in their lane when turning.

Another almost undrivable section is in Rivier Street close to the corner of Retief Street. The entire section of road is filled with potholes, needing motorists to either drive slowly through it or slalom their way in a zig-zag motion.

Walter Sisulu Avenue on the south side next to Waterbok Avenue is also filled with dangerous and deep potholes, which are very difficult to see at night.

According to JB Marks spokesperson, Jeanette Tshite, the ongoing rain makes it difficult to do repairs, but stated that the municipality is focusing on fixing it.

“Roads and Storm Water Unit is currently awaiting procurement processes through Supply Chain Management to address reported potholes in affected areas.
The Municipality apologizes for the inconvenience caused as we work to ensure safe and lasting repairs.”
