Suspected cellphone snatcher nabbed in swift CID response

The suspect was successfully detained shortly after the incident.

A suspected cellphone snatcher was apprehended around 21:30 in the Potchefstroom Bult area on Friday, March 28, following swift work by local security teams.

The incident occurred at the corner of Jooste and Molen Streets, where a cellphone was allegedly snatched. Officers from Cachet Park CID NPC Potchefstroom responded immediately and pursued the suspect on foot.

The suspect was successfully detained shortly after the incident, and the stolen cellphone was recovered.

According to Leandro de Beer, manager at the CID, the quick coordination between their teams played a critical role in the outcome. “Our CCTV and reaction teams responded swiftly, which led to the recovery of the stolen property and the apprehension of the suspect,” he said.

The South African Police Service was contacted, and a case has since been officially opened. Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the suspect.
