Paramedic in stable condition after third operation

Doctors have indicated that he will need to remain in hospital for at least five days to allow for recovery and to reduce the risk of infection.

Aldus Smith, the paramedic who went for a third major back surgery on 31 March, remains in a serious but stable condition following his latest surgery, where a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) drain has been placed externally to allow the wound to dry.

The operation was concluded at around 01:00 on 1 April. He is currently in High Care and will be transferred to ICU once there is available bed space.

Doctors have indicated that he will need to remain in hospital for at least five days to allow for recovery and to reduce the risk of infection. If his recovery continues as planned, he could be discharged as early as Monday, 6 April.

According to his wife Annika, her husband is experiencing significant pain, but his medical team is monitoring him closely and providing dedicated care.

“His medical team remain cautiously optimistic about his progress, with hopes that this procedure will be a success,” she added.
