Leaking roof halts services at municipal offices

The cashier offices will also not be available for use until the necessary cleaning, maintenance, and repairs have been completed.

Significant roof leaks have caused damage to the revenue cashiers office in the main building of the JB Marks Local Municipality in Wolmarans Street.

This specific office had to be closed this morning (Tuesday, April 28) due to unsuitable working conditions. The floors were filled with water from the roof leak counters were also wet from the leak.

The Herald received photos this morning which gave an indication of the amount of damage from the leak. According to an employee, who wishes to remain anonymous, the leak has been giving problems for at least a month and added that safety is a concern.

A notice on the closed door in the building states: “following recent rainfall, significant roof leaks have caused damage to the facility, creating an uncomfortable working environment and posing potential safety risks. As a result, the cashier offices will also not be available for use until the necessary cleaning, maintenance, and repairs have been completed.”

The notice issued by Mr. Jeffrey Monareng, the Chief Financial Officer of the JB Marks Municipality.

The municipality in the interim, requests that all payments are should be made at alternative pay points which includes:

  • Ikageng Office
  • Promosa Office
  • Boxer Stores
  • Shoprite
  • Pep Stores
  • Pick n Pay
  • EFT

Pre-paid electricity can be bought at any vendor.

The Potchefstroom Herald has not received official feedback from the JB Marks regarding the closure of the revenue cashiers office. The Herald will add feedback once it is received.
