Blankets of kindness warm hearts at Witrand Hospital

A simple act of kindness is helping bring warmth and comfort to patients at Witrand Specialised Hospital this winter.
The Klerksdorp Methodist Church Women’s Auxiliary recently donated 50 sets of blankets, along with a batch of lovingly hand-knitted bed socks to Ward 12F at the hospital, reminding many that compassion can often be found in the smallest gestures.
The initiative was spearheaded by Margaret Heylen, whose ongoing dedication to the patients at Witrand has touched countless lives over the years.
The donation was aimed at bringing comfort and dignity to patients as colder weather approaches, and hospital staff says the heartfelt gesture could not have come at a better time.
“We’re thrilled to be able to give back to our community in this way,” a representative from the church said. “It’s amazing to see how something as simple as a blanket or a pair of socks can bring a smile to someone’s face.”
For Margaret, the project was about serving others with love and compassion.
“This donation is from women who, out of the abundance of the heart, labour for love. We’re happy to be part of a project that makes a difference in people’s lives,” she said.
Matron Sheilla Legoale expressed her gratitude to Margaret and the church women for their continued support of the ward and its patients.
“I would like to thank Mrs Margaret Heylen, who organised the blankets and knitted bed socks. Mrs Heylen has always been one of the philanthropists who, besides having a child admitted at Ward 12, has for more than five years constantly reached out to our patients and provided them with their needs,” she said.
Acting CEO Dr Isaac Wana said the donation would make a meaningful difference to patients during the winter months.
“On behalf of Witrand Specialised Hospital patients and staff, I would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the Klerksdorp Methodist Church Women’s Auxiliary for the donation. Gestures like these make a big difference in the lives of our patients. The gift is timely and needed as the winter season is on our doorstep,” he said.
