Reinke Sunday League brings out the big hits on finals day

The Reinke Sunday League ended on a high note for DSC who took the Cup-title.

The Reinke Social Sunday League T20 season concluded this past Sunday, 24 May, at the Reinke Oval (Army Base), with DSC crowned the A-League champions for the 2025/26 season.

The finals day featured three finals matches for the Cup, Plate and Bowl competitions. DSC defeated MBFI by 35 runs to claim the Cup title. Stylish left-hander Arno Hattingh (50* off 27 balls) and hard-hitting John-Martin Parsons (50* off 32 balls) both scored unbeaten half-centuries as DSC posted 200/5 in their 20 overs.

MBFI fought valiantly in reply but were bowled out for 165. Uli Pretorius claimed three wickets for 30 runs for DSC, while Dariah de Villiers top-scored for MBFI with 37 off 29 balls.

In the Plate final, Reinke defeated Jaguars by 21 runs. Reinke posted 178/4 before restricting Jaguars to 157/6 in their 20 overs. Xander van Gass led the way with the bat for Reinke with a solid 52 off 41 balls, while teammate Erik Wyma smashed 48 off 29 balls. Henry van Niekerk (2/15) was the Jaguars’ best bowler of the day.

The Jaguars needed a strong batting effort in reply, and Willem Maree did his best with 50 off 25 balls. Wessel Barkhuizen also contributed an unbeaten 46 off 41 balls. Van Gass capped off an excellent all-round performance by taking 3/9 in three overs for Reinke.

Reinke won the Plate-final.

In the Bowl final, Spartans secured a 25-run victory over Novon Protecta. Marnus Geyser scored 50 off 25 balls, while Samuel de Villiers added another 50 off 31 deliveries. Marno Pretorius also impressed with an unbeaten 53 off 38 balls.

Jandré Steyn (2/27) was the pick of the bowlers for Novon Protecta. Gideon Steyn hit 31 from 20 balls and Jandré followed that up with a powerful unbeaten 50 off 29 balls, but it was not enough to chase down Spartans’ total of 203/4.

Rudi Vermaak (2/17) was the standout bowler for Spartans.

Spartans won the Bowl-final.

The next season is scheduled to start in July. There is space for eight teams across two competitions, including a T20 and 100-ball competition.
