Giddy up! Patients bring Wild West vibes at Mr & Ms Witrand
Witrand Specialized Hospital’s Activity Centre in collaboration with North-West University students, hosted the event, which brought colour, laughter and talent to the hospital community.
The Witrand Specialized Hospital Recreational Hall was transformed into the Wild West for the annual Mr & Ms Witrand Celebration on 21 May 2026, .
“This is one of the most celebrated patient activities, where patients showcase their talents through performance,” said Sr. Nicole Fourie, Activity Centre Operational Manager at Witrand. “This year’s theme was Wild West, complete with cowboy hats, wagons, and cacti.
The event blended tradition with a bit of frontier flair. It was a moment to celebrate personality, talent, and the Witrand community beyond the hospital walls. Our female participants dressed in exquisite vintage clothing that reflected both tradition and elegance.”

The evening started at 18:00 with an opening prayer by Michael Muller, followed by the Mr & Ms Witrand contest. Male contestants were Bruce Lee, Michael Fourie, Aubrei Driederiks, Diketso Khasu, and Kokeletso Poo. Female contestants were Bafedilwe Molgwa, Grietjie Coetzee, Goul Senwelo, Ursela Gens, and Natasha Rex.
Beyond the competition, the night was about celebrating people. Staff, students, and guests came together outside of work mode to share laughs, support talent, and strengthen the Witrand community.
The title of Ms Witrand went to Natasha Rex, while Kokeletso Poo scooped the title of Mr Witrand.
Dr Isaac Wana, Acting Hospital CEO, thanked everyone involved for the therapeutic value the event brought to patients.
“Big thank you to the Witrand Specialized Hospital Activity Centre staff and NWU CSE for this unwavering partnership, and to everyone who made the night happen behind the scenes,” he said.

“To the students, you did it again. Your ability to plan and execute such a successful project is magnificent. Your blend of therapeutic touch is reminiscent of a team that is focused and dedicated in all you do.”
He added, “to our patients Kokeletso Poo and Natasha, and all other Witrand contestants, thank you for stepping up, showing your talent, and bringing energy to Wild West night. You represented the Witrand spirit with confidence, personality, and heart. We are proud to have you as part of the Witrand family.”
In closing, Mr Martin du Toit thanked Witrand Specialized Hospital for making it possible for NWU students to interact with admitted patients.
“The collaboration between NWU students and the Activity Centre made it easy for patients to rejoice. Thank you to all students, staff, and patients who participated in the event.”
