Protest against raised taxi tariffs could bear fruit
It is believed that a verbal agreement was reached on the original price of R 20 per trip.
There was some form of validation for the residents who were protesting since 04:00 this morning in Promosa against the 25% increase in the taxi tariff from R20 to R 25 per trip.
After protestors blocked the road at the Bloemetjie Street and Allan Hendrickse Drive, for most of the morning, it is believed that an agreement could be reached that the price would stay at R20 for the time being.
According to sources, a verbal agreement was reach with the Greater Potch Taxi Association, which satisfied the masses. Further meetings will be held with taxi operators on this matter, on whether an eventual increase will be administered.
There was a strong police presence at the scene that made sure that the protestors were monitored.
NW police spokesperson, Captain Majang Schalkie, stated that the Public Order Police are deployed and that they are monitoring the situation. No incidents were reported.
