The JB Marks Constituency of ActionSA hosted an aspirant ward councillor candidate workshop in Potchefstroom this past Saturday, July 25 to prepare community centred leaders ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections.

Lenyatso Daniel Legabe (ActionSA Provincial Campaigns Manager) and Xolile David Kham (JB Marks Constituency Leader) attended the workshop and reinformed the importance of accountable and people-cenered public service.

According to ActionSA the training focused on key areas such as election readiness, the constitutional roles and responsibilities of a ward councillor, ethical leadership, transparency in governance, accountability and so forth.

Legabe and Kham encouraged aspirant candidates to become role models within their communities

“A central message throughout the workshop was that being elected as a ward councillor is not about personal interests, political status, or personal gain, but about serving the people with integrity, humility, and dedication. Councillors are entrusted with the confidence of their communities and must honour that trust through ethical leadership, transparency, and responsible decision-making.”
