What was once an abandoned and almost forgotten post box has been given a new coat of paint and a proper makeover on the corner Meyer and Hoffman Streets in front of the NWU campus main gate.
The postbox paint job was completed this week thanks to the efforts of Leandro de Beer (Cachet Park CID Manager) in partnership with the NWU and other role players.
It was Leandro who spotted the need to restore the post box to its original glory.

“Numerous students did not know what the postbox was. Many assumed that it was a trash can or a fire hydrant.”

Leandro got into contact with prof. Daryl Balia, deputy vice-chancellor of the NWU, to get the project off the ground.

“It took three days to remove the 11 layers of paint. The post box is made out of iron and it is concreted into the ground. There were also some chips at the top that needed fixing. Now you can actually read that it is a post box. Hopefully this post box can be an attraction and a spot to take selfies at,” added Leandro.

Other role players who assisted included Build It, with the supply of the materials at a discounted price.
