Residents in Promosa and Mohadin have been left without electricity following vandalism at the Poortjiedam Substation in Potchefstroom.

The power outage started in the early hours of Friday morning, August 28, with the JB Marks Local Municipality confirming that its technical team had found evidence of vandalism at the substation.

Municipal spokesperson Jeanette Tshite said the damage was discovered during an investigation into the outage.

“Following an investigation by the technical team, the municipality received confirmed reports of vandalism at the Poortjiedam Substation, which has disrupted the electricity supply to the affected areas,” said Tshite.

She said the technical team is currently assessing the extent of the damage and determining the safest and most appropriate way to carry out the necessary repairs.

At this stage, the municipality cannot provide residents with an estimated time for the restoration of electricity, as the extent of the damage and the time required to complete the repairs are still being assessed.

Tshite urged affected residents to remain patient while technicians work to restore the power supply.

“The municipality requests affected residents to remain patient, while the technical team works to restore the electricity supply as soon as possible,” she said.
