Ikageng has the highest number of reported Assault GBH (Grievous Bodily Harm) and residential burglary cases in the North West.

This is according to the latest crime stats that the SAPS released for the first quarter of the financial year from April to June.

Ikageng Police Station was also ranked fifth nationally for residential burglary and 13th at national level for Assault GBH. Ikageng was also the fourth highest contributing station in North West for sexual offence related crimes.

Sexual assault continues to be a major concern in the province with reported sexual assault having gone up by 20 counts in Dr. Kenneth Kaunda when compared to 2025 over the same time period.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Arthur Peter Adams, stated in a press conference in Mmabatho that it was important to educate society on the impact of gender-based violence and the crimes associated with it.

“I am calling on communities and perpetrators to desist from engaging in gender-based violence and femicide.”

He also mentioned that alcohol consumption and the ease of access to alcohol contribute to the regularity of contact related crimes.

There are more liquor premises than schools and churches combined in the province. Dr. Kenneth Kaunda has 1 039 registered premises. At some point we will need a serious reflection on where we are now and where we are going,” stated Adams.

“We are not living up to the expectation of the community yet. We must be at the best we can be when it comes to crime. The SAPS need to call on communities and governments to turn North West into the safest province in the country.”

North West Community Safety and Transport MEC Tsotso Tlhapi said the SAPS are prioritising investigative work in high-profile cases, such as the murder of Ikageng whistle-blower and community leader, Mokoena Letsie.

“We must strengthen the protection of whistle-blowers, anti-crime activists, and human rights defenders, who often find themselves vulnerable because of their courage and commitment to serving the public interest. Their safety remains a priority in building safer and more just communities.”

The department will further prioritise the functionality of Community Police Forums and Community Safety Forums.

“Crime statistics must not be treated as numbers only. They must guide action,” added Tlhapi.
