Road closures and diversions to affect Potchefstroom motorists

The municipality said the planned paving works form part of its ongoing efforts to improve road infrastructure.

Motorists in Potchefstroom are urged to plan their trips carefully as roadworks will result in temporary closures and traffic diversions on the N12 and Promosa Road during October and November.

The bridge at the Potchefstroom Industrial Interchange on the N12, including its ramps, will be closed in both directions from Tuesday, October 13, until November 27, 2026.

The closure will affect motorists travelling between Klerksdorp, Potchefstroom and Johannesburg. Traffic will be diverted via Luitingh Street, where a speed limit of 30km/h will apply. Motorists should expect delays and allow for additional travelling time.

Meanwhile, planned road paving works will result in a temporary traffic diversion on Promosa Road from Monday, October 12, until Friday, October 23.

According to Jeanette Tshite, municipal spokesperson, the JB Marks Local Municipality’s Roads and Stormwater Section has identified alternative routes for motorists during the construction period.

“Motorists travelling from the town centre can use Lekhele Street towards Mogolodi Street to access Promosa and Mohadin. Those travelling from the Bult area can use Chief Albert Luthuli Street and continue along Allen Hendricks Street to access Promosa,” Tshite said.

Temporary traffic management measures and road signage will be in place to guide motorists and ensure the safety of road users and construction personnel.

Tshite urged motorists to exercise caution, obey temporary road signs and follow the instructions of traffic officers when travelling through the affected areas.

The municipality said the planned paving works form part of its ongoing efforts to improve road infrastructure, enhance service delivery and provide safer and more accessible roads for residents.

Motorists are advised to familiarise themselves with the alternative routes and plan their journeys accordingly to minimise disruptions.
