Residents of Hillside View in Promosa are enduring severe challenges as they grapple with uncollected rubbish and overflowing pit toilets, issues that have persisted for over seven months. Frustrated by the lack of response from the local municipality, community members have taken it upon themselves to clean their toilets and dispose of waste at the cemetery, leading to rising health concerns as the heat intensifies.

In a heartbreaking incident, the Booysen family lost their home, a church, and a vehicle to a fire on September 16, which is suspected to be arson. The community is also mourning the tragic loss of two elderly individuals who died in a road accident at the intersection of Retief and Beyers Naude streets.

Amidst these difficulties, there are glimmers of hope. Local author René van Zyl recently won the ATKV-Woordveertjie award for her romance novel, Belle with a Heart Full of Flowers, celebrating her roots in Potchefstroom. Additionally, local sports teams achieved impressive results at the Klerksdorp Sevens Festival, showcasing the community’s resilience and spirit in the face of adversity.
