Kaizer Chiefs Tlokwe branch uses football to drive community change
Established in January 2025 under the leadership of chairman Vincent Mpho Leie, the branch has grown into more than just a supporters’ group.
The Kaizer Chiefs Greater Tlokwe branch continues to prove that football can be a powerful vehicle for community upliftment, as members gathered at Rysmierbult on May 16 for a morning of outreach and unity.
Established in January 2025 under the leadership of chairman Vincent Mpho Leie, the branch has grown into more than just a supporters’ group. Rooted in its motto, “We enjoy the comfort of soccer,” the branch has embraced a broader mission, using the sport to bring hope, support and smiles to those in need across Potchefstroom and surrounding rural areas.
“Our mission is not only about soccer, but to make a difference in our community through the game and bring smiles to the needy,” said Leie.
Over the past year, the branch has marked several meaningful milestones, including celebrating the 75th birthday of community member Granny Maria Matlhoi and hosting a surprise 50th birthday for Leie himself. Members also endured the loss of a fellow supporter, Mr Kenosi, describing the journey as both challenging and deeply unifying.
Despite setbacks, the branch has continued to recruit new members and expand its outreach, with a strong focus on “Back to the Community” initiatives. These efforts include visits to rural areas before extending support locally, often relying on sponsorships and contributions driven purely by goodwill.
The recent gathering at Rysmierbult reflected the branch’s inclusive spirit, welcoming supporters of various teams, including Chiefs, Pirates and Sundowns, in a shared effort to uplift the community.
“Our doors are open to everyone who wants to join us,” Leie added. “The little we receive is what we give back. Blessed are the hands that give more than those that receive.”
He also extended gratitude to all members, noting that the branch’s impact would not be possible without their continued support and commitment.
