The 33rd Mielieland Bowls tournament, organised and hosted by the bowls section of the country club, is commonly regarded as the best ever.

Some of the comments heard on Sunday at the prizegiving: ‘Thanks to you and your staff for another well run and enjoyable 2016 Mielieland. It is definitely in our diaries for next year,’ and, ‘I would like to thank you all for a perfectly organised tournament, absolutely top drawer.’

Forty women’s teams and 52 men’s teams competed for the coveted Mielieland trophies from Friday to Sunday morning. The teams did battle at the country club, Potchefstroom Bowls Club, Strathvaal Bowls Club in Stilfontein and, for the first time, the Parys Bowls Club,

The players agreed that the greens were in a superb condition, making top quality bowls possible.

The men’s section was won by Morgan Muvango and his team from Witpoortjie Bowls Club and the women’s  winner was Nici Neal and her team from Leases BC. They lifted the trophy for the third consecutive year.

Ferdi Jansen and his Strathvaal team ended in the third spot and Ina Meyer and her PCC team came fourth in the women’s section. The PCC men’s team of Ian Nieuwoudt was in the sixth position, only 4.5 points behind the winner.

Jan Koekemoer and his organising team did the city proud. Well done!
