Gold medals aren’t really made of gold. They’re made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.
The much awaited annual PMSC inter-unit sports day was held at the PMSC sports grounds on Wednesday, 2 November 2016 with more than 1 000 soldiers, including spectators, participating.
The fantastic turnout from the 14 participating units and the pleasant weather were the perfect boost for the soldiers participating in this annual sports day.
At the PMSC Johan Du Randt rugby stadium, the soldiers entered into the spirit of the occasion in a grand way with the vice-chairperson of PMSC, Maj. Pierre Hamman and Chaplain Joe Radithlalo opening the day’s activities.
An energising message from Chaplain Radithlalo set the tone for the rest of the event, motivating the soldiers to give their best to the glory of their respective units.
Once the eight sports events began, the air was filled with cheering and tonnes of encouragement for the participants.
Soldiers of 14 participating units competed in FW angling, golf, combat rifle shooting, bowls, walking, blackball pool, soccer and volleyball. After a lot of blood, sweat and tears, the day was concluded with the ASB Potchefstroom winning the event for the first time, followed by the Military Veterinary Institute (MVI) in second place and the SA Army Specialised Infantry Capability (SAASIC) finishing 3rd.
