Caster Semenya has had a golden 2016 and she continued her glittering year with one last award to crown her year of great victory.
Semenya took home the Sportswoman of the Year at the SA Sports Awards on Sunday, 27 November at the Sand du Plessis Theatre in Bloemfontein.
This is no surprise after the Pukke 800-metre athlete claimed her first Olympic gold medal in Rio with a number of stunning runs.
She was also, once again, the target of much controversy over her hyperandrogenism, but kept her dignity and self-respect throughout the ordeal.
This achievement is due reward for the effort she has put in the whole year under her local coach, Jean Verster, who must also be commended for the work he has done in getting Semenya back to her best this year.
