The first leg of the 2017 Varsity Athletics competition will kick off at the Puk McArthur Athletics Stadium this Friday, 3 March, when the cream of SA’s athletics crop takes to the field to showcase their talent.
NWU Pukke’s athletes will surely look to go out guns blazing on Friday as they aim to follow in the footsteps of the 2015 Varsity Athletics team that came joint first with Tuks.
The University of Johannesburg are the current Varsity Athletics champions and will look to start their quest for the double in Potch.
Home support and a feel for the familiar conditions will no doubt count in Pukke’s favour as a number of stars will be looking to shine brightly.
Jo-Ané van Dyk and Johann Grobler will want to continue the fantastic form they showed at the Junior World Championships last year when they won silver medals in the javelin. On Friday, they will want to take home gold.
Theodor Young in the 110 metre hurdles and Julia du Plessis in the high jump will also be athletes to keep an eye on come Friday.
The meeting starts at 15:30.

Julia du Plessis will be one of the athletes to look out for.
