Potchefstroom’s underwater hockey elite will travel to Hobart, Tasmania to take part in the 2017 Underwater Hockey World Championships from 14Z21 July to defend the title they won in 2015.
Under the coaching expertise of JD Aucamp and Pamela Mackor, the SA side is willing and ready to bring back gold once again. Danél Wentzel Simeon Jooste and newcomer, Nicole Smit will represent Potchefstroom as players and will be keen to impress on the global stage.
Smit, a Potchefstroom Girls High learner, will compete in her first World Championships and said focus and a calm head will be key ingredients for victory. ‘It will be important to stay calm and to approach the tournament, one game at a time. We want to bring back the gold medal.’ said Smit.
South Africa’s challengers for the title will be Australia, Canada, UK, Colombia, New Zealand and newcomers, USA. According to Mackor, Colombia and New Zealand will be the stiffest competition in the tournament.
JD Aucamp, Nicole Smit and Pamela Mackor will represent South Africa at the Underwater Hockey World Championships to be held in Hobart, Tasmania. Danél Wentzel and Simeon Jooste were absent.
