Local Korean martial artists shine at national championships in Potchefstroom

It was a Korean Martial Arts spectacular in Potchefstroom on the weekend of 5-6 August when the country’s best gathered at the Madiba Banquet Hall for the South African Korean Martial Arts National Championships. Members of the Potchefstroom Korean Martial Arts Club, Tang Soo Do, also competed and impressed the competitors and judges alike.
All the members who competed also belong to Martial Arts South Africa, a member of SASCOC.
North West, Gauteng, Free State, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape and the Federations competed in the event. The styles represented were traditional Tang Soo Do, combat Tang Soo Do, ATA Taekwondo, ITF-SA Taekwondo, SA-ITF Taekwondo, SATI Taekwondo and GTF – Taekwondo.

Junior members who performed: Back: William Avis (gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze), Onthatile Tshetlane (gold), Maxelle Erasmus (3 gold, silver). Front: Zia Hassim (bronze), Cael Witten (gold) and Farhaan Gani (bronze).

Middle: Ruan van der Berg, Cara de Kock (bronze), Iva Ivanov (silver), Botle Mohlomi (gold, silver). Front: JC Wyllie (silver, 2 bronze), Emma Witten (gold, 2 silver), Kholisile Xaba (bronze), Nicholas Chihabga (gold, 4 silver, 1 bronze), Ivelin Ivanov (3 silver, bronze).
