Excitement is in the water at the camp of North West Junior Underwater Hockey with the 2018 SA National Junior Underwater Hockey tournament taking place in Potchefstroom from 8–10 March.
Some of the best underwater hockey players from 31 teams around the country will compete in the sparkling new facilities of the Potchefstroom Swimming Pool after the J.B. Marks Municipality decided to renovate the swimming pool and its facilities last year, in anticipation of this national competition.
The North West Junior Underwater team trains at this facility weekly and one of the coaches, Pamela Mackor, is delighted with the progress that has been made ahead of the showcase event.
‘This is going to be a really big affair and preparations with the squad are also going well. It is fantastic that the J.B. Marks Municipality has decided to help us in staging this event. The pool is clean with a new filter system and the ablution blocks are also being upgraded. The last time we hosted such an event was 22 years ago,’ she added. The municipal swimming pool will be closed to the public from 5 March due to the tournament taking place from 8-10 March.
