North West 8-ball pool players ready for nationals

The North West 8-Ball Pool Association held its 2018 women’s and seniors’/masters’ championships on 17 February and 3 March respectively.
Alpha Cues Pool Club in Coligny hosted the women’s tournament and the NW Pool Venue in Klerksdorp hosted the seniors’/masters’. The championships work on a knock-out basis with the winners progressing to the finals and the first-round losers progressing to the Plate event. Chene Grace won the 2018 women’s championships with Christene du Plessis (Feathers Pool Club in Klerksdorp) as the runner-up. Neville Davids (Feathers Pool Club in Klerksdorp) won the senior championship and Johnny Pretorius (Feathers Pool Club in Klerksdorp) was the runner-up. In the masters’ division, Johan Van Niekerk won the finals with Davids ending as the runner-up.
These events were the last qualifiers for the provincial teams to represent North West, to follow the teams selected for the upcoming Pool South Africa (PSA) National 8-Ball Pool Championships at the Vereeniging Town Hall in Sedibeng from 22 April to 5 May.
Here are the North West squads:
Women’s A: Chene Grace, Lolla van der Merwe, Gina Labuschagne (captain), Marie Roux and Christene du Plessis
Women’s B: Sharon Moore (captain), Jessica van der Merwe, Annalise Marnewick, Eliske Esterhuizen and Leoni Conradie
Masters’: Neville Davids, Johan van Niekerk (Captain), Paul van Zyl, Nielen Pienaar and Cliff Bonthuys
Seniors’: Johnny Pretorius, Eswee Kotzee, Wesley Stewart, Norman Delport, Joe Miquel (captain), Morne du Toit, Norman Tullues, Wimpie van Heerden, Chris Montgomery.
‘The NWPA congratulates each player on their selection and knows they will do us proud at the national championships,’ said Jaco Schoeman, PRO of North West 8-ball.
‘The PSA National Championships attracts players, supporters and administrators from all over the country and, for all seven tournaments, sees a collective attendance of about 5 000 people. This is a very good marketing opportunity for business and the sponsors of provincial teams,’ he added.
