WP takes u.16 RPC-title in Potch

Sisonke Sobekwa was one of the top batsmen for Western Province in the CSA u.16 Regional Performance Centre (RPC) week. His 110 in the final took Province to victory.

The 2019 u.16 Regional Performance Centre (RPC) cricket week in Potchefstroom saw some of SA’s hidden gems shine brightly in a 50-overs competition.

The RPC Week took place from 26 to 29 March and saw u.16 cricketers from various Cricket South Africa (CSA) regional performance centres and hubs compete against each other.
Twelve teams from across the country made their way to Potch with most of the youngsters getting their first taste of playing in a major tournament.

The fantastic facilities at the various grounds (NWU Puk Oval, NWU Ibbies, NWU Soccer Oval and Potch Boys High fields) in Potchefstroom were also one of the reasons for the success of the week.

The enthralling final saw SWD and Western Province battle it out at Senwes Park. This was a highlight for the players who must have felt like superstars on this massive stage. This did not stop these talented cricketers as some shots sailed into the grass embankment.

Western Province won by three wickets after chasing down a stiff target of 307. SWD won the toss and elected to bat, posting 306/6, thanks to a superb 90 from Kamvalethu Feni and an 84* from Geon Burns. Province fought back with Sisonke Sobekwa (110) hitting the only century of the tournament in the final. Thaakier Davids (59*) took the side home with a mature, unbeaten knock as WP clinched victory with 307/7 in 49 overs.
