Kovsies can smile the brightest this morning after their Varsity Netball team triumphed against the North West University (NWU) in a traditional intervarsity battle between the NWU and Kovsies in the 2019 Varsity Netball-tournament this past Monday, 9 September.
Kovsies beat the NWU 59-55 in a hard fought and extremely close encouter in Bloemfontein which could have gone either way.
Kovsies’ standout players were Sikholiwe Mdletshe, captain, Lefébre Rademan as well as the ever impressive Rolene Streutker in front of goal.
For the NWU, captain and defensive lynchpin, Monique Reyneke, was on the top of her game and kept making things uncomfortable for the Kovsies’ attackers. Didintle Keebine, also contributed with some fantastic interceptions in defence and vision in attack.
Kovsies though had a superb third quarter as they extended their lead to 48-35 after it was 20-20 at half-time. The NWU did well to adjust in the final quarter as they initiated a mini comeback as Caitlinn Rousseau came into defence togethre with Reyneke to good effect.
It was though a little to late for the NWU who now are now in fourth place on the table with a 50% win record from their four games in the tournament thus far.
