Photos: Mmone, Motsau and Phalula shine at Hezekiel Sepeng Legacy Run

The excellent long-distance runner, Lebo Phalula of Boxer Athletics Club, showcased her class with a unique double, winning the 10 km run and the elite mile.

Local athlete, Joel Mmone, took the big win in the inaugural Hezekiel Sepeng 10 km Legacy Run in Potchefstroom on Saturday, 23 November.
The ACNW athlete from Nedbank Running Club took no prisoners as he blasted over the finish line in a time of 29:35 to finish in just under half an hour. Matthews Leeto (Ford) took second in 29:37 in a close finish. The experienced Mthobisi Baloyi (Murray and Roberts) took third in 30:11.
The excellent long-distance runner, Lebo Phalula of Boxer Athletics Club, showcased her class with a unique double, winning the 10 km run and the elite mile. Phalula finished the 10 km run in 35:40, ahead of Cornelia Joubert (Boxer) in 37:27 and Minette Bell (Berts’ Bricks) in 39:40.
Phalula won the mile in 5:08.57, ahead of the local athlete, Danielle Verster (Potch Track Club), in 5:18.47. Yolandi van Deventer of Wesvalia claimed third in 5:23.20.
In the men’s elite mile, Jerry Motsau (Boxer) claimed the win in 4:02.16. Tembisa’s, Rhyn Mphahele (4:03.39) and Elvis Mokhonoana (4:05.92) took second and third places, respectively.
The main aim of the run was to promote the fight against women and child abuse and create an excellent running event to continue the development of running in the country.
