Windies compound SA’s woes at u.19 Cricket World Cup

SA's struggles against the West Indies once again highlighted their fragile batting line up as they went from 98/3 to 143 all out in another batting collapse.

The highest that South Africa can  finish in their own back yard in this year’s ICC u.19 Cricket World Cup is seventh place.

This after the South Africans slumped to a 4 wicket defeat against the West Indies in a 5th place qualifier match at the JB Marks Oval yesterday (1 February).

SA will now face either Australia or Afghanistan in the 7/8 place match at Benoni next week.

SA’s struggles against the West Indies once again highlighted their fragile batting line up as they went from 98/3 to 143 all out in another batting collapse. Levert Manje with 43 (63) was the only bright spark for SA, but he was unfortunately run-out.

Consistent bowling from Ashmead Nedd (2/18) and Matthew Patrick (2/12) stifled SA’s hopes.

The West Indies though also got off to a poor start losing wickets early as Merrick Brett (2/33) did the most of a rare start for SA. West Indies captain, Kemani Melius, top scored with 29 as the visitors eventually dragged their way over the line as SA could not defend the small total.
