NWU athletes book their spot at Tokyo Olympic Games

Javelin thrower, Jo-Ané van Dyk, 400m sprinter, Chederick van Wyk (4x100m relay) Zakithi Nene (400m and 4x400m relay) and Pieter Conradie ( 4x400m relay) will all be flying the SA flag high in Tokyo. 

The Olympic dreams of some of the top athletes of the NWU Athletic Club has come true with the final announcement of the SA team for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games from 23 July – 8 August.

Javelin thrower, Jo-Ané van Dyk, 400m sprinter, Chederick van Wyk (4x100m relay) Zakithi Nene (400m) and Pieter Conradie (both 4x400m relay) will all be flying the SA flag high in Tokyo.

Van Dyk recently threw her personal best of 61.19 metres during an athletics meeting in the Czech Republic and will be looking to go even further at her first Olympic Games.

Nene has also been a revelation this year with an SA Champs gold in his pocket. He also nearly clocked a sub 45 this year with stunning 45.03 dash.  The youngster will definitely be one to watch in Tokyo.

The experienced Chederick van Wyk and Pieter Conradie will also look to carry their respective relay teams to success.

NWU employee, Elroy Gelant, will also represent South Africa in the marathon event. The NWU will also feature in a management level with Jean Verster (manager), and Pierre Blignaut, going as a the throwing coach.

There is a good chance that NWU and Lesotho 100m sprinter, Mojela Koneshe, could also go to the Olympics to represent his country, but the final squad has not yet been revealed.
