The 2021 SA Interprovincial golf tournament saw the North West team take a well-deserved third place in the Premier Division during a pulsating five days at San Lameer Country Club in Southbroom, KZN.

The tournament took place from 13-17 September with Western Province (34.5) taking the victory by a whisker ahead of Central Gauteng (34.5) due to a better win percentage.

North West claimed third with a score of 32 and a points total of 6 having won three and lost two matches during the week. North West started round 1 with a superb 6.5/5.5 win against Ekurhuleni. They then obliterated Southern Cape by 4 strokes with an 8/4 victory.

The third round saw a loss against Gauteng North by 3 points, before bouncing back with a brilliant 8.5/3.5 victory against Western Province. A big win in the last round against Central Gauteng could have given the men from NW the overall win, but it was not to be as they lost 7.5/4.5.

One of the stars of the NW team, Christiaan Burke, stated that he was proud of how the team performed.

“We are really happy with the third place and we could’ve won the whole tournament on the final day. So it was quite close. It was a great team building experience for us all. The conditions were really difficult and I am proud of what we achieved,” he said.

The North West team consisted of: Christiaan Burke, Slade Pickering, Dougie McCabe (captain), Oliver Goldhill, Nash de Klerk, Jaco Anderson, Nic Weber, Jordan Wessels and Peet van Schalkwyk (manager).
