Luxolo Adams won the men’s 200m race in 20.30. NWU’s Theodor Young came fourth with a season’s best of 20.75.

Kyle Blignaut won the men’s shot put event with a throw of 20.13 in a close battle with UJ’s Jason van Rooyen who took second with a 20.03m heave. Caster Semenya also showed her class with a great run in the women’s 2000m race. Semenya finished in 5:50.42.

Bayapo Ndori of Botswana also ran beautifully and gave his everything in the men’s 400m race finishing in a time of 44.88. In the women’s 800m race it was Prudence Sekgodisa who shined with a time of 2:01.89. Local, Danielle Verster, took third with a season’s best of 2:05.77.

In the women’s javelin NWU’s, Jo-Ane van Dyk claimed second spot with a throw of 58.07 just behind a superb 58.26m throw from Mackyla van der Westhuizen. International athletes, Nikol Tabackova (Czech Republic) and Yuka Sato (Japan) claimed third and fourth respectively.

Finland’s Toni Keränen threw a personal best of 79.38m in the men’s javelin event. The NWU’s Johann Grobler hit a distance of 78.76 to take second place. Philmar van Rensburg took third with a throw of 74.04. Jovan van Vuuren took the men’s long jump with a leap of 8.12m.

Danielle Nolte took first in the women’s long jump hitting the sand at 6.32 metres. NWU’s Karmen Fouche came second with 6.12m leap.

The men’s 100m final went the way of Kenyan sprinter, Ferdinand Omanyala in a time of 10.11 seconds. The experienced Carina Horn won the ladies 100m event in 11.50 seconds.
