
During the school holiday (2-6 October 2022), the North West LSEN Cricket Team participated in the Annual LSEN Cricket Tournament in Kuils River, Western Cape.
The North West LSEN team was made up from learners from Die Wilge High School (Potchefstroom), Oom Paul School (Rustenburg), Keurhof (Klerksdorp), Retlametse Special School (Mahikeng) and Lillian Lehetla Special School (Atameleng).
The first match that was played was Time-Cricket, where North West LSEN played against Boland LSEN. North West won the first innings with 10 runs, and drew with the second innings. This was also the first time that the North West Team could win against these opponents. Bathabile Masigo played a good knock scoring 36 runs off 33 balls. Johan Fourie from Oom Paul School took 4 wickets for 33 runs, whist Orapeleng Mokaleng from Lillian Lehetla Special school took 3 wickets for 26 runs in 6 overs.
The second match was played against Gauteng EE (Extra Ordinary Education). The boys from North West showed great determination and fight, but unfortunately lost the match with only 2 runs.
The third match was played against Easterns LSEN, the defending champions from 2019. The boys showed great character in a hard fought match, and showed real class whilst batting, scoring 161 runs in 41 overs. Easterns could only manage to score 117 runs, all out in 33.3 overs. Bathabile Masigo from die Wilge scored 74 runs, and took 5 wickets (10 overs, 5 for 19), which included 2 maidens. North West LSEN ended up winning the match with 44 runs.
Bathabile Masigo from Die Wilge High School was selected as Batsmen of the week, and was named in the un-official SA LSEN Team. This is his 4th time being selected in this prestigious squad.
