Local runner wins gold at Special Olympics

One of Potchefstroom's very own, won a gold medal at the Special Olympics which took place from 17 - 25 June in Berlin. 

One of Potchefstroom’s very own, won a gold medal at the Special Olympics which took place from 17 – 25 June in Berlin.

On Monday, 19 June, Kamogelo Moncho won the gold medal in the 5000m race, a few days later he also bagged the bronze medal in the 1500m race.

Moncho who is affectionately known as “Top Runner” is a former Ikalafeng Special School learner. He was out to defend his title that he won in 2019, when he also took gold at the Spcial Olympics in Abu Dhabi.

According to Moncho, he decided to defend his 5000m title, stating that the 5000m is his favourite event.
