Project 350 to inspire young athletes at Boys High this Friday

Athletes will kick-off a social and community outreach programme this Friday, 30 January at Potchefstroom High School for Boys at 08:30.

North-West Province’s Olympians and aspiring Olympians who are part of North-West Project 350 are taking part in a social and community outreach programme with the aim of motivating and inspiring the next generation of athletes.

Aligned with the National Development Plan (NDP) 2030, the program focuses on Olympic Specific sporting codes, with a strategic emphasis on the North West Province, which is set to contribute 30 athletes to the national group.

The project is a Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation financial aid program for elite athletes in partnership with NWAS, HPI & CHHP, locally.

One of the goals is to prepare young athletes for the 2028 Youth Olympics and the creation of equitable pathways for athletes from underrepresented backgrounds.

According to the coordinator, Busang Molekane, the main aim of this project is to create a space where top local athletes can get noticed and give back to the youth through training clinics and relevant activities that can grow athletics. There have been numerous barriers for athletes in the past to get funding and exposure to elite level athletics.

“It’s important that we change the narrative and make athletics a sport where there is a large interest,” added Molekane.
