Underwater hockey players put through their paces ahead of Nationals and World Championships

The Junior Nationals will be held from March 26–28 in Somerset West, where the players will compete against the best junior teams from across South Africa.

The North-West junior underwater hockey players from Potchefstroom are preparing for the upcoming Junior Nationals in Cape Town, as well as the World Championships scheduled to take place in Turkey later this year.

The Junior Nationals will be held from March 26–28 in Somerset West, where the players will compete against the best junior teams from across South Africa. The World Championships are scheduled for July, providing an exciting international opportunity for the athletes later in the season.

As part of their preparation, players from North-West and the Free State recently gathered in Potchefstroom for a joint training session aimed at sharpening their skills and improving team cohesion ahead of the important tournaments.

“Preparation has been going well. The practice session with Free State is also helping in this regard,” said Pamela Mackor, the National age group head coach. The Potch Sub Aqua Club also played an important role by assisting with the cleaning of the Potch Dam swimming pool, which the players are currently using for their training sessions in preparation for the championships.

JD Aucamp, coach of the U19 National & NW men’s team, also expressed confidence in the team’s readiness, stating that the players are in good shape as they head towards the Junior Nationals.
