You don’t even want to know…I know I don’t! Researchers in Michigan, USA, has secretly observed people in restrooms to see if they wash their hands after using the toilet.
The findings are quite…dirty I would say:
•10% did not even pretend to wash their hands.
•23% washed their hands…with no soap.
•The rest used soap but only washed for a short while.
•It was found that only 5% washed their hands with soap for more than 15 seconds or more.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention says that 48 million people get sick every year from eating contaminated food. It has been shown that half of that amount would not get sick if they have washed their hands properly.
The ironic side of this is that 95% of the people who used the restrooms said they did wash their hands properly.

So, how should we wash our hands?
Step 1: Wet your hands with running water.
Step 2: Close the tap and apply soap.
Step 3: Lather your hands by rubbing them together and make sure to cover the back of the hands as well.
Step 4: Scrub your hands for 20 seconds, while singing the ‘Happy Birthday’ song. (It should last 20 seconds)
Step 5: Rinse hands under clean running water. Step 6: Air dry hands, or use a clean cloth to dry. Washing hands with soap remove germs more effectively, ensuring that you don’t get sick and spread germs to other people. You like to use hand sanitizer, you said? Hand sanitizer is a wonderful way to keep microbes (all tiny living organisms that may or may not cause disease) at bay when water and soap are not readily available. Sanitizer does not eliminate all types of germs (types of microbes that can cause disease). That is why it is still important to use soap to kill most germs on your hands.
