 Sports in South Africa has grown significantly over the past few years. Over three million people have started playing the country’s most popular sports; rugby, soccer and cricket. In addition, these sports have also been a major draw card in local and international sports betting.   The country is well known for hosting a great deal of athletes and extremely competitive sporting events. With that being said, let us discuss the most popular sports   

Football 

Football, or locally known as soccer, is the most loved sport in South Africa. It is also the most viewed sport in the country.  The most prominent team in South Africa is the South African national football team- Bafana Bafana.  This team has claimed victory in two World Cups as well as three Confederations Cups.  The National Football League (NFL) is the top football league in South Africa.  The NFL was established in 1997, and has found its roots in becoming a well-known professional league.    Aside from its popularity, soccer has become a great form of entertainment- especially to those who wager on Betway. The game has been enjoyed by the households of Mzansi since the early 20th century. The country’s initial international match was played in 1904. Here  South Africa played against Great Britain and won 1-0. South Africa has grown its international matches  ever since.  

Rugby

Rugby is one of the most popular sports in South Africa. The game has become popular in the country and it is growing at a rapid pace. South Africa was afforded the opportunity of hosting the 1995 Rugby world Cup and were also the champions of the global event.  The South African National team, also known as The Springboks, won the International cup again in 2007 and 2019.   The future for South African rugby looks quite promising, and the country seems like they can steal yet another international win in the not so distant future. The team has a lot of promising talent, boasting exceptional players such as Duane Vermeulen, Francois Louw, Jean de Villiers and others.  

Cricket

It may not be as popular as the other sports, but cricket is one of the most commonly enjoyed sports in South Africa.  The country has a heap of cricket clubs as well as a variety of different types of cricket like Test Cricket, One Day International (ODI), Twenty20, One Day and T20.    The South Africa Cricket team is also one of the most respected  teams on an international scale. The current team line-up consists of legends such as AB de Villiers, Hashim Amla, Faf du Plessis, Quinton de Kock and Vernon Philander.   The country has produced some of the best cricketers in the world. From AB de Villiers to Faf du Plessis, South Africa has scored many runs with the best cricketers to have played the game.   

In conclusion

South Africa is known not just for its diverse cultures but also for its many involvements in sports, and there are plenty of different events that take place across the country each year. Betway fans can safely wager on these teams to win in just about any competition .
