Deserted Police station in Assen
a Police station in Assen was found to be deserted by a member of the community. He was looking for help after bringing in a suspect.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the North West Province Major General Jacob Tsumane condemned the situation at Assen police station.
The station is predominantly policing farming communities and the deployment of members is done as per our rural safety strategy.
On Tuesday, 28 July 2015 at about 17:00 a member of the community visited the station and there was allegedly no one in the front line to assist.
“The situation as reported by the community member is uncalled for. We have a responsibility to render a service to our community. Members who were on duty will have to give a proper account of their whereabouts, at the time a service was needed by a community member and could not be accessed. I have instructed the cluster commander of the area to conduct a formal investigation into this matter” said Major General Tsumane.
Front line service is a priority and we cannot relax on it. “I call-on all police members in the province to adhere to their oath of office. We can’t compromise on Batho Pele principle” added the Acting Provincial Commissioner.
