Cancer can be prevented

Fedhealth warns that cancer is a higher risk in an unhealthy lifestyle.

Fedhealth says people should live healthier and go for check-ups, as this can prevent cancer.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO) more than eight million people died from cancer worldwide in 2012.

60 percent died in Africa, Asia, and Central and South America.

About a third of cancer deaths were a result of people being overweight, not eating enough fruit and vegetables, not doing enough exercise and using tobacco and alcohol.

According to Fedhealth people should acknowledge the importance of healthy living, and be proactive by taking preventative measures against diseases like cancer.

“30 percent of all cancers can be prevented,” said Principal Officer of Fedhealth Peter Jordan. “Early diagnoses and treatment is vital to fight this disease and regular check-ups and preventative screening tests really can save lives.

World Cancer Day was on 4 February and February is Healthy Lifestyles Awareness month.
