Randburg detectives lead the cluster

KENSINGTON B – Extensive team effort and commitment are the main elements that pushed the Randburg SAPS detective branch to triumph in the Honeydew Cluster.

The Randburg SAPS detective’s branch is leading the Honeydew Cluster for its exceptional performances.

The station led the cluster for four consecutive months starting in April until July this year.

Group Commander Captain Richard Mtshali indicated that success started from the top to the ground level.

“It is the whole station team effort. Management team does not just instruct detectives – they are also involved in tracing the suspects,” said Capt Mtshali.

According to him, the regular joint operations that are conducted at least twice in a week contributed to the achievement.

“Every detective is allocated the work that they can actually handle and this ensures dockets are not just piled up in the office without attention,” he said.

He further explained that it all started when Brigadier Ndebele took the helm in the unit in February.

“He has been transferred to the province now, but we will continue to implement his strategies and try to maintain our standard,” concluded Mtshali.

One of the detectives, Constable Mapula Kapa, said they were a strong team working together as a family.

“We take our dockets two days before the court proceedings and that gives NPA enough time to prepare and ensure that conviction is secured,” Const Kapa said.

The acting Station Commander Colonel Andries Odendaal said he was proud of his detectives. “The achievement shows that good work was done over an extended period of time,” he said.

He concluded that all units in the station were basically working together. “Obviously, we will monitor their progress and see if the achievement is sustained,” concluded Col Odendaal.

The Randburg Community Policing Forum Chairperson Sandy Andrew applauded the team of 28 detectives.

“It takes long hours, attention to detail – and in many cases, members’ lives are on the line,” she said.

According to Andrew, to keep the momentum going, the communities should get involved in investing in their own safety.

“Be proactive about reporting suspicious activities, and make an effort – one hour per month! – to join a local resident’s forum,” Andrew explained.
