34-year-old gets 10 years for theft and housebreaking

FERNDALE – Randburg Police Station shares on the arrest and sentencing of the suspect who had gained access onto a Ferndale residence.

A 34-year-old man received a 10-year sentence wholly suspended for five years at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court for housebreaking and theft.

The man gained entry into the complainant’s property on 1 October 2016 at about 5am by breaking a padlock at a residence in Ferndale. The suspect broke a glass door in order to get access into the house and stole several items.

According to Captain Makgowanyana Maja of the Randburg Police Station, the alarm of the house went off and the suspect fled the scene leaving some items he had planned to steal in the driveway. “Through intelligence, he was traced and arrested by Detective Constable Musa Nyoni who worked tirelessly to achieve a conviction.”

The man received his sentence on the condition that he is not convicted on similar offences and he further declared unfit to possess a firearm. Maja said the station’s commander, Brigadier Michelle Jones praised the detective for his hard work and emphasised that detective officers must not be stopped by anything to make sure that those who find themselves on the wrong side of the law are punished. “All inhabitants of this country should feel free wherever they are when they had left their properties for other occasions.”
