119 teams take part in 6 a-side tournament

Teams from all over Gauteng gathered at Old Parks Sports Club to battle in the 6 a-side soccer tournament.

Old Parks Sports Club hosted another successful annual six-side tournament from March 10 to 12.

Teams from all over Gauteng participated in the tournament.

Old Parks chairperson Sylvania Sheppard said they had 119 teams including girls that took part in the tournament. “It is very exciting we want to bring football back to the youth and make it exciting again.”

She added the games were non-competitive for the U6 to U10 teams and competitive for the U11s and U12s.

“From the development point of view with Fifa they want kids to have smaller tournaments, more time on the ball, smaller fields, and high intensity in shorter spaces and time. It is very important for the little one’s development to have smaller tournaments like this one and also play league fixtures all the time because it builds a lot of excitement.”

The teams that were crowned champions were:

U11: Alex future Starz

U12: Westrand Ballers

Girls: Panorama FC.
