South African Cake Decorators Guild finds a new home
Ann Horner said that they have grown rapidly from when they started and they once had over 60 branches but they declined because of the economy and covid
Honorary lifelong member of the South African Cake Decorators Guild (SACDG), Ann Horner, officially opened a new guild head office and an academy in Blairgowrie, Randburg.

“It’s wonderful to be here, I remember back 47 years we always wanted to have a school but we did not have premises big enough for it. Now we have new premises and a bigger space. We are now finally going to have an academy so that we can teach more people all about the sugar craft art,” said Horner.

The main aim of the academy is to teach more people about the art of sugar craft.
“We’re aiming for more diverse inclusion and younger people. We want young chefs that do not have this art in their curriculum. They’re welcome to do some classes here and we want to grow the guild,” said SACDG president Helma Holloway.
“More people can use this as an extra income, because these days everybody needs extra income here and there. A lot of our ladies do that, they make cakes for sale,” Horner told Randburg Sun.

The SACDG has several branches nationally and a national executive committee that decides what the guild does. “We also have a Judge Demonstrators Teachers and Training (JDTT) committee that is responsible for assessments and training judges to judge in cake shows,” said Holloway.

At the ceremony, the president of the guild Helma Holloway awarded the following people for outstanding service to the guild:
Teresa Swanepoel – Friends of the guild award
Ann Horner – Service award
Jackie Oosthuizen – Service award
