Randpark Ridge dojo Seishin Martial Arts Academy shapes future karate champions

With expert guidance from Sensei Emma Wentzel, Seishin Martial Arts Academy trains students in Goju Ryu karate, offering classes for children, teens, adults, and aspiring black belts.

Seishin Martial Arts Academy has shaped disciplined and confident individuals since its founding in 2014. Based in Randpark Ridge, the academy teaches Goju Ryu karate, a traditional Japanese martial art that blends powerful strikes with defensive techniques. More than just a place to train, the academy fosters a sense of community and personal growth, helping students build both physical strength and mental resilience.

Affiliated with Seiwakai South Africa, Karate South Africa (KSA), and the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC), the academy follows the highest standards in martial arts. Head instructor sensei Emma Wentzel, a fifth dan black belt, brings years of experience in traditional karate, self-defence, and international competition coaching. Under her guidance, students of all ages train in a structured and supportive environment.

Seishin Martial Arts Academy offers a range of classes:

• Pre-karate (Ages 3–6) – Fun, engaging sessions to develop co-ordination, balance, and motor skills.
• Children’s classes (Ages 6–13) – Teaching fundamental karate techniques while building discipline, confidence, and self-control.
• Teen & adult classes (14+) – A combination of powerful striking techniques, self-defence skills, and mental discipline.
• Black belt & instructor training – Advanced training in Goju Ryu karate, refining techniques and sparring strategies.
• Self-defence workshops – Practical techniques focused on real-life situations, conflict resolution, and personal safety.

Beyond training, the academy instills values of respect, perseverance, and continuous improvement. Students actively participate in local, provincial, and national karate tournaments, often securing podium finishes. Wentzel herself is a four-time national champion for Karate South Africa and the Union of African Karate Federations (UFAK) Sub-Saharan Africa.

The academy is also committed to giving back. Through partnerships with local organisations, they provide free self-defence workshops, and donate pre-loved karate uniforms to underprivileged communities.

The academy’s impact also extends beyond the dojo. Many students have experienced remarkable personal growth, overcoming shyness and low confidence to become strong, self-assured individuals. One inspiring success story is a student who, after years of training, earned a senior black belt and now assists in teaching.

With a vision to grow its student base and increase participation in international events, Seishin Martial Arts Academy continues to expand its reach. Seishin Martial Arts Academy welcomes newcomers, whether beginners or experienced martial artists. Those interested can attend a free trial class or visit the dojo to experience the atmosphere firsthand.
