Spark Cresta gives back with kind donation

Spark Cresta donated toiletries and hygiene products to Abraham Kriel Bambanani, reflecting their values of kindness and service while encouraging learner and parent involvement

In a show of care and community spirit, Spark Cresta donated essential items to Abraham Kriel Bambanani, a non-profit organisation that supports vulnerable children and youth across Johannesburg.

The donation included personal hygiene products, bathroom toiletries, sanitary pads, and skincare items. This act of kindness reflects Spark Schools’ core values of service and kindness, which guide their efforts in creating a caring and supportive school environment.

School principal Malehlohonolo Nthinya shared that one of the children currently staying at the home was a former learner at Spark Cresta. Unfortunately, he had to leave due to financial constraints, as the home could no longer afford to keep him at the school. “This initiative is a way for us to stay connected and continue supporting those in need,” she said.

Abraham Kriel Bambanani provides care and protection to vulnerable and traumatised children. The organisation runs homes and community programmes at 13 sites in Johannesburg, offering shelter, education, and emotional support to children in need.

Spark Schools also encourages parent involvement through its Parent Volunteer Hours programme. Parents are required to take part in school activities for up to 30 hours per year. This strengthens the bond between families and the school and allows parents to play an active role in their children’s education.

“It’s proven that learners perform better when their parents are involved,” said Bongimpilo Khumalo, a Grade 6 and 7 teacher at the school.

To make the donation drive even more engaging, learners received a ticket for every item they donated. These tickets served as a token of appreciation and a fun way to get learners excited about giving back.

This donation is one of many ways Spark Cresta lives out its values and shows its commitment to making a difference in the community.
