JRA finally repairs water channel in Bromhof

Water way finally cleared on Flamink Street in Bromhof by the Johannesburg Roads Agency

Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has cleared a water channel following damage caused by overflowing water to a resident’s property.
The water channel runs at the back of the property on Flamink Street in Bromhof, and was blocked by rocks and rubbish. During the heavy rains, the flooding water knocked down the boundary wall and flooded the home.

After months of endless calls and emails to JRA, resident Faith Naicker was relieved that the work had been completed.
“All we wanted was for them to fix the servitude so that when we have the next rains, we do not have the same issue occurring again and damaging the new wall that was built.”

JRA head of regional operations Khaya Gqibitole confirmed that the work had been completed. He explained that the delays were incurred due to difficult access to the servitude.

“We assessed the area and found that the stormwater channels were blocked,” he said. “This led to flooding and water seepage into residential properties along Flamink and Hans Schoeman roads. The channels needed to be cleared. Our teams struggled to access the servitude due to the steep slope and trees.”

The entity had to engage the assistance of City Parks to remove the trees and excess vegetation so that an excavating machine could access the site.

“Once the trees were removed, JRA began excavation works and cleared the blockages from the stormwater channel. The teams completed the stormwater channel maintenance on May 28.”
