Hoërskool Randburg dancer takes her career to new heights

Janique Kruger, Hoërskool Randburg Grade 10 learner, continues to make her mark on the stage, dancing for the crowd.

Hoërskool Randburg Grade 10 learner Janique Kruger is taking her dance career to the next level, as she recently performed excellently in various competitions.

Janique competed at the Universal Dance Championship South Africa final qualifiers, where she took first place in contemporary solo (15–17 age group), and was awarded the overall best contemporary solo across all ages, as well as most expressive routine. She also qualified for the national team to compete at the International Odyssey of Dance competition, with her contemporary and lyrical solo’s, as well as her lyrical duet.

She represented team South Africa at the Stars of the Universe International Competition against seven countries: France, Greece, Estonia, Bulgaria, England, Spain, and Hungary. She took first place for lyrical solo (15–17 age group) and contemporary solo (15–17 age group). The young dancer has also been selected to participate, as a member of the South African team, at the Rimini Italian Performing Arts Festival, in Italy from July 3–7.

Janique explained that competing against other dancers is always an amazing experience. The atmosphere is always full of positive vibes, which hypes her up before she goes on stage. “It is always great to see the friends I have made at these competitions. It is exciting, and a proud moment that I will cherish forever. I am incredibly proud of my achievements and feel truly blessed that all my hard work has paid off.”

The talented dancer continues to work hard, putting in long hours at the studio containing blood, sweat, and tears, and with teachers who are always helping her improve, and get stage ready.

She added that her achievements mean a lot, as she can see growth from when she started, but she can still improve. “I love to dance, and seeing these achievements gets me a step closer to living out my dreams.”
