Matsheke told residents who were in attendance he did have an interaction with the affected family and asked that they should be given space as well as time to heal and mourn.
He indicated the matter is with the police and there is a forensic report that the municipality cannot divulge to the public.
“If the municipality is involved in this matter, we are going to take responsibility,” Matsheke said.
He further admitted the municipality is faced with ongoing sewer problems which can be attributed to aging infrastructure made of asbestos.
One of the mechanisms or solutions brought up is to expand the Hannes van Niekerk plant that is operating on one module to sort out grey waters.
According to RWCLM, a consultant has since been appointed. The mayor also explained the layout of Mohlakeng Extension 11 is built on a low-lying place.
