We don’t need Afrikaans

All the schools in Randfontein's children are forced to do Afrikaans as first language if not second, forgetting that not everyone of us knows the language.

• A concerned parent from Randfontein writes:

I fail to understand why the Minister of Education together with her subordinates cannot fix the problem we are facing as parents in Randfontein.

All the schools in Randfontein’s children are forced to do Afrikaans as first language if not second, forgetting that not everyone of us knows the language.

Some of us came here becuase of work and it is always hard to find schools for our kids as we are told that it is compulsory for them to do Afrikaans.

This is a free country and every child should be entilted to choose their own subjects and must have a choice if they do want to do it.

No so long ago I had a problem when my child wanted to do homework and as I dont have any back ground whatsoever in Afrikaans it was quite difficult and also sad that I could not help.

So to the Minister as well as the district: Something must be done and mind you not all of us want to know this language as much as they don’t want to learn our languages.
