[OPINION] The dangers of Halloween
'You think it is an innocent celebration, but you open yourselves to evil.'
• Freddy Jacquire writes:
Halloween originated from two places …
Firstly, ancient Britain and Ireland – a Celtic paganist celebration called the Festival of Samhain or the lord of darkness, meaning from the light time (summer) to the dark time (winter). During the Festival of Samhain from October 31 to November 1 the pagans believed that the spirits were more active. Pagans believed the world of gods and spirits (underground – Satan) were made visible to mankind, and the gods and spirits then played tricks on their mortal worshippers. It was a time filled with danger, charged with fear, and full of supernatural episodes.
Sacrifices and evil temptations of every kind were thought to be vital, for without them the Celts believed they could not prevail over the perils of the season or counteract the activities of the deities. Samhain was an important predecessor to the Halloween of today.
Secondly, Roman Catholicism to honour all saints. Because there were so many dead saints, they put aside one day to pray for the dead saints – All Saints Day.
Note that both these religious festivals shared similarities dealing with spirits, fires, dead people and graves. Celtic paganists made huge fires to keep spirits away, and the Catholics make fires on the graves of the dead saints.
The Celts are still celebrating Samhain on October 31 and November 1st. Pope Gregory III moved All Saints Day to November 1 in 741 AD, making an effort to ‘Christianise’ a pagan feast to the same day. In other words, they Christianise something that is demonic and filled with evil. In 988 AD the Catholics added another day – All Souls Day (Nov 2) – to pray for all the souls that were suspended in Purgatory (in Catholic doctrine, purgatory is a place or state of suffering inhabited by the souls of sinners who are expiating their sins before going to heaven, and needed the prayers of their loved ones). Today Christians celebrate a festival, together with pagans, with huge bonfires, parades, and costumes, masquerading as dead saints, angels and demons.
All Saints Eve (Oct 31), All Saints Day (Nov 1), and All Souls Day (Nov 2) combined into Hallowmas, imitating the Celtic feast of Samhain (lord of the dark).
‘Hallow’ in Halloween means ‘holy’.
Only God is Holy. This pagan feast for the dead is not from God. Be warned.
Christian families, protect yourselves and your children by not celebrating Halloween (Satan). You think it is an innocent celebration, but you open yourselves to evil.
